Topic:
K-7 North Interim Strategies Study, Leavenworth & Wyandotte Counties
Mr. Tobaben and Mr. Schwartz will share the results of a recent study and evaluate and develop interim strategies for improving safety and traffic flow along K-7 from Parallel Parkway to Gilman Road. The purpose of this study was to identify and evaluate potential strategies that could be implemented within the next five to ten years. The goals for the study include minimizing travel times along the K-7 corridor and reducing the number and severity of crashes occurring at major intersections. Extensive stakeholder outreach was performed with communities along the K-7 corridor.
A range of potential interim strategies were analyzed including:
- Continuing the current practice of installing traffic signals when warranted.
- Creating dual left turn lanes on K-7 and adding turn lanes or through lanes on the side roads to minimize the traffic signal "green time" dedicated to the minor traffic movements.
- Alternative Intersection Designs
- Median U-Turn (MUT) Intersection.
- Restricted Crossing U-Turn (RCUT) Intersection.
