Join KSITE for our July Meeting for a review of the KTA Comprehensive Safety Assessment & Summer Social on July 10th!

Please note the updated schedule: the meeting will now take place from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by a lively Summer Social just down the road at Chicken & Pickle from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.

In 2020, the Kansas Turnpike Authority initiated a three-phase comprehensive safety analysis with the ultimate goal of identifying projects that would reduce the likelihood of fatal and serious injury crashes. The three phases included data review and stakeholder engagement phase, a countermeasure identification and prioritization phase, and an implementation phase focused on setting the Turnpike up for continuous safety assessment and improvement into the future. Key elements include:

• Targeted engagement with Turnpike leadership and staff, law enforcement, emergency responders, truck owners and operators, and the traveling public
• Crash data analysis
• Countermeasure identification (including engineering/infrastructure countermeasures and enforcement/behavioral countermeasures)
• Predictive crash modeling
• Review of third-party data platforms and providers and other technologies
• Goal setting and performance measure identification
• Project prioritization and cost-benefit analysis
• Application guidance for future project selection

The results of this project are already informing safety initiatives and projects aimed at reducing fatalities and serious injuries on the Turnpike.

Following the presentation, KSITE will host a summer social at Chicken & Pickle, just down the road from the meeting site. We have reserved two pickleball courts, including equipment rentals and will provide complimentary food and drinks (while supplies last). We’d love to see you there for an afternoon of engaging discussion and relaxed networking!
